It's
situation unchanged at the top of the leaderboard after winds proved too light
for racing today at the Caja Mediterráneo Region of Murcia Trophy.
Today’s
sea breeze off Cartagena
proved too feeble to allow any racing at the Audi MedCup Circuit’s Caja
Mediterráneo Region of Murcia Trophy.
The long wait, in stiflingly hot temperatures, proved to be in vain and the
race committee sent the GP42 Series and the TP52 Series fleet back across an
almost glassy sea to the historic harbour in Cartagena at just before 1600hrs. Although conditions had looked vaguely promising when the fleet set out, with
around 6-7 knots of wind, when the teams assembled around the start area, it
was clear that a wait was on the cards.
While the TP52 Series are already two races to the good, and TeamOrigin 1851
(GBR) lead by one point ahead from Alberto Roemmers’ Matador (ARG), the GP42
Series have yet to have a points scoring race off Cartagena.

The South African,
double-handed team of Nick Leggatt and Phillippa Hutton-Squire are currently
racing their four year-old Akilaria Class40 Phesheya-Racing (ex-Clarke
Offshore Racing, ex-Atao Audio Systems) in the Sevenstar Round
Britain and Ireland Race with an additional two crew; the Austrian duo of Peter
Artenberg and Markus Hofstaetter. At 10:00 GMT this morning (26/08), Leggatt,
Hutton-Squire and their crew were 150 miles east of Duncansby Head, the north-east
tip of mainland Scotland,
trailing the Class40 leader, Tom Gall and his crew on the new Akilaria RC2 Concise
2, by approximately 70 miles. Despite the demanding conditions, the duo
took time to call the Global Ocean Race 2011-12 (GOR) Race Organisation earlier
today and announce their decision to enter the double-handed circumnavigation
starting from Mallorca in 395 days time.

Defending World Match Racing Champion, Adam
Minoprio and his ETNZ/BlackMatch Racing team are looking to put their nearest
rivals to the sword at the St. Moritz Match Cup next week as the business end
of the Tour gets underway.
The idyllic setting of Lake
St. Moritz high in the
Swiss Alps will play host to a series of fierce one-on-one sailing battles as
the top names in the ISAF World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) compete for the
coveted ‘King of the Mountains’ title. The man to beat is defending St. Moritz
Match Cup Champion, Adam Minoprio (NZL), who comprehensively outgunned his
rivals in 2009 on his way to taking the overall World Match Racing
Championship. The New Zealander leads a crop of young sailors looking to
outshine the more established names in match racing and leaves no doubt about
his desire to repeat his feat of 2009.
